Seeing a beautiful 1967 Corvette that’s been flooded can be quite the depressing thing. While most of us would mourn the loss of a classic American sports car, these guys who bought the C2 Corvette at auction after it was recovered from the Hurricane Helene floodwaters got to work bringing it back from the dead.
See a genuine split window 1963 Corvette get rescued.
We know a lot of people say once a vehicle has been submerged in water it will never be the same. But the group that rescued this ’67 ‘Vette claims that isn’t so. They regularly buy flooded cars at auction, usually old classics like this one, then go through them and get everything working again.
They were really excited for this Corvette since it not only has an LS V8 swap but also a Tremec 6-speed manual, aftermarket chassis, and Detroit Speed front/rear suspension. Those are some nice goodies, but as they tear into this car there’s enough to scare most people away.
After all, it sat in ocean water for who knows how long. The guys find a mixture of seawater and oil in the sump and the exhaust system has crusted salt deposits. What’s to say this thing won’t suddenly rust and break apart like a soggy graham cracker?
As they go over the car on the lift, it’s apparent some corrosion has already taken hold, including on a fuse box that’s mounted down low. It’s understandable why anyone would give up on this hot mess, but these guys purposely buy flood cars, claiming expertise in getting them running and working great for the long haul.
You can watch the video and see the resurrection of this 1967 Corvette, then judge for yourself whether it was done properly and if it will have big problems later on from that nice salt water bath.
