Turbocharged Corvettes with mountains of horsepower aren’t horribly uncommon these days, but this C3 Corvette has all-wheel drive and can do a seven-second quarter mile. A lot of people are talking about this build now because it brings the goods, not only looking cool but throwing down hard on the drag strip.
Check out this Smokey and the Bandit-inspired Pontiac Trans Am drag racer.
Created by Polish company VTG, the American sports car is reportedly pushing over 1,600-horsepower and more is available to tap. That’s thanks to a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 that’s been bored and built with strong internals.
On top of that, the engine is getting a nice forced feeding through a Turbonetics 91 mm turbocharger. Plus, there’s a nitrous system. All that combined is wild, which is where the all-wheel-drive system comes in.
After all, one of the most critical elements of a successful quarter mile run is traction off the line. AS they say, your car needs to hook up and go, not spin the tires with all of its wondrous power.
Backing that powertrain is a drivetrain donated by a GMC Typhoon, thus the all-wheel drive. A three-speed automatic transmission is responsible for feeding power from the LT1 to the differentials and on to all four wheels.
As you’ll see in the video, the C3 Corvette can do four-wheel burnouts, something we don’t see often enough, and they’re epic. Since the driver is just heating up and cleaning off the tires, we imagine the car would be able to do even more monstrous of burnouts if it were in some sort of competition and not prepping for a quarter mile run.
When the driver does line up and hit it, the ‘Vette takes off with zero drama, making for a perfect launch. The whole thing is just beautiful. It’s capable of low seven-second runs at a trap speed above 170 mph. You have to see this beast in action.
