Hollywood actor Joaquin Phoenix has personally felt the sting of the car theft trend when someone swiped his Volvo SUV from outside his home in Los Angeles, California recently. While we don’t hear too much about the Swedish automobiles being theft targets, it seems these days in certain areas like the City of Angels nothing is really safe from sticky fingers.
You won’t believe Shaq’s one-of-one custom Hellcat.
Phoenix wasn’t home when the theft took place, with one of the actor’s employees stepping outside to find the $60,000 SUV was just gone, according to TMZ. It’s a 2022 but the exact model isn’t specified, so feel free to speculate what it might be.
A Volvo is an interesting vehicle for a big movie star like Phoenix to choose. It might be one of many vehicles the man owns, or it might be his more incognito car for when he wants to get around unnoticed without suffering the inferior interior of a Chevy or Hyundai.
It’s not clear if whoever stole the Volvo was aware it belongs to the actor or if the thief even cares. While there’s always that possibility some crazed stalker fan could steal a celebrity’s car as some twisted way to feel close to them, this might have just been a crime of opportunity.
After all, no details about the circumstances of the theft have been released. For all we know, someone left the key fob in the SUV, something a shocking number of people do. Or it’s possible the vehicle was sitting idling in the driveway. Again, it happens and thieves will capitalize on these sorts of habits.
Police are investigating the car theft, but so far there’s no update. Just like with everyday people who get their ride swiped, Joaquin Phoenix might never find out what happened to his Volvo and will just have to buy a new vehicle after getting an insurance payout.
