Ben Affleck’s All-Electric Ford Bronco Breaks Down

Estimated read time 2 min read

Actor Ben Affleck has been a rather outspoken advocate of vehicle electrification as well as alternative energy sources such as solar and wind, so it’s ironic his all-electric first-generation Ford Bronco left him and his son stranded recently. Paparazzi were on hand to document the affair on October 5 as they waited for a tow truck to come and take the EV away.

Keanu Reeves almost crashed while racing over the weekend.

This was of course in the Los Angeles area, so they weren’t exactly in the middle of nowhere. Still, stranded on the side of a highway, they walked to a nearby gas station for treats while waiting for their ride to arrive.

It’s not clear what happened to the pricey vehicle. Considering these types of classic electric powertrain conversions often cost upwards of $200,000 one would expect they would operate almost flawlessly.

Affleck bought the first-gen Ford Bronco, which already had its internal combustion engine removed and the all-electric powertrain installed, about a year ago. Media were terming it an early Christmas present to himself.

We don’t really care that much what Ben Affleck drives so long as he enjoys it. But we think he probably was none too happy with the EV on Saturday and nobody can really blame the guy.

However, with how outspoken he’s been on vehicle electrification, we wonder if this incident will shut him up a little. After all, George Clooney was similarly self-righteous about EVs until his left him stranded. Later, he sheepishly admitted that cooled his enthusiasm for the technology.

Could it be possible Affleck pushed the EV too far when the battery was low, running out of charge because he didn’t have the time or patience to stop and plug in? After all, there are plenty of options in a city like Los Angeles.

Or did the expensive all-electric off-roader break down some other way and now needs repairs? Affleck and his representative has been silent as different media outlets have asked, so for now we’re left to simply wonder as some choose to mock the movie star’s misfortune.
