Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball was involved in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon at the busy intersection of Trade and Tryon streets in Uptown Charlotte. The collision left a gray Kia sedan damaged in the middle of the intersection, while Ball’s custom 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 came to rest along the side of the street with a front wheel missing.
Aerial footage from the scene showed both vehicles disabled following the impact. According to witnesses, the Kia was traveling east on Trade Street at the time of the crash. Ball was driving west on Trade Street and attempted to make a left turn onto Tryon Street, which operates as a one-way roadway. The vehicles collided during the maneuver.

Photos provided to me show LaMelo getting out of the driver's seat. But CMPD hasn't said who was driving and how this crash happened. Another car was involved. Medic says one person has minor injuries. We don't know… pic.twitter.com/oTLSqTwE9B
Witnesses reported seeing Ball exit the Hummer after the crash. He then entered a Lamborghini and left the immediate area. Observers at the scene indicated that he appeared unharmed as he departed.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the intersection following the crash. MEDIC confirmed that one person sustained non-life-threatening injuries. It has not been publicly disclosed which vehicle that individual occupied. Both the Kia and the Hummer were later towed from the scene as crews cleared the intersection and worked to restore normal traffic flow through the center of the city.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash or whether any citations were issued. Ball’s condition has not been officially addressed beyond witness accounts indicating he appeared uninjured.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
