Authorities are investigating a burglary at the Mooresville home of NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, where $30,000 in cash was reported stolen just weeks after Biffle and six others were killed in a plane crash. The theft was discovered as the community continues to mourn the victims of the December aviation tragedy.
Chilling Timeline Forms After Plane Crash Kills Greg Biffle, Six Others
According to a police report obtained by WCNC Charlotte, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to Biffle’s estate on Doolie Road shortly after 6 p.m. on Jan. 8. The incident report stated that $30,000 in cash and a backpack were missing from the residence. No additional property was listed as stolen.
The burglary occurred less than a month after Biffle, his wife Cristina, and two of his children were among seven people killed when a plane crashed at Statesville Regional Airport on Dec. 18. The other victims were identified as Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton, and his son Jack Dutton.
As of now, no arrests have been announced in connection with the burglary. Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest, and authorities have not indicated whether the home was occupied or monitored at the time of the theft. The investigation remains ongoing.
The reported burglary comes as preparations are underway for a public remembrance event honoring the victims of the plane crash. The memorial service is scheduled for Friday at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. Doors are set to open at 10 a.m., with the service beginning at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public, does not require tickets, and will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
Meanwhile, the cause of the plane crash remains under investigation. Officials have confirmed that someone aboard the aircraft sent a text message to a family member referencing an emergency landing shortly before the crash. Authorities have said the plane went down approximately 10 minutes after takeoff.
A preliminary report on the crash is expected, though investigators have stated that a final report determining the probable cause could take between 12 and 18 months to complete.
