The Czinger 21C has reclaimed the production car lap record at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, edging past the Koenigsegg Jesko in a closely contested rivalry between two modern hypercars.
Last week, the Czinger 21C completed a lap of the 2.238-mile California circuit in 1 minute, 22.30 seconds. That time was enough to surpass the previous production car benchmark set by the Jesko, giving the American-built hypercar a narrow but decisive victory. The margin between the two cars was just two seconds, underscoring how closely matched the competitors remain.
The latest record adds another milestone to the 21C’s long development and testing journey. For several years, different versions of the hypercar were shown publicly during Monterey automotive events, gradually refining the platform before full production specifications were revealed. The car had already demonstrated its potential at Laguna Seca in the past, previously setting a production car lap record with a time of 1:24.39. That mark was later eclipsed when the Jesko posted a 1:24.16 lap, setting the stage for the current back-and-forth battle.
Powering the 21C is a twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with electric motors, producing a combined 1,250 horsepower. The record-setting run was driven by Joel Miller, an experienced driver who has been instrumental in the car’s performance testing across California. Miller has previously established lap records at Thunderhill Raceway Park, Sonoma Raceway, Willow Springs Raceway, and the Thermal Club during an extended tour of regional circuits.
Beyond the track, the 21C has attracted attention during public appearances. It has been spotted refueling in Miami and photographed in Yosemite National Park, moments that quickly circulated online. With production limited to just 80 units, sightings of the hypercar remain rare.
The 21C’s timeline dates back to early 2020, when initial teaser videos were released. A planned Geneva Motor Show debut was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a private unveiling in London. By mid-2021, the finalized production version was revealed, followed shortly by its first major lap record at Laguna Seca, where it beat the McLaren Senna. The latest achievement reinforces its place at the center of today’s hypercar rivalry, with the response from Koenigsegg now eagerly anticipated.
