One of the most successful American race cars of the modern endurance era is now available to private collectors. The Corvette C8.R-005, a factory-built racer with an extensive championship pedigree, has been listed for sale in Michigan with an asking price of $1.5 million.
Constructed by Pratt Miller Engineering, this car is the fifth of only six C8.R chassis ever produced for Corvette Racing. Designed specifically for the GTE competition class, it represents the peak of Chevrolet’s factory racing program before the team’s transition to GT3-spec machinery. Unlike many retired race cars destined for museum displays, this C8.R has been fully restored to racing condition and is ready for use at private track events or historic endurance races.
Chassis 005 built an impressive résumé on the world stage, with 11 IMSA appearances during the 2023 season alone. It captured six podium finishes and two victories, continuing Corvette Racing’s legacy of dominance. The car also contested the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021 and 2022, piloted by elite drivers including Antonio García, Jordan Taylor, and Nicky Catsburg. Over its lifespan, the C8.R program accumulated 22 wins and 50 podiums across international competition.
Underneath its aggressive carbon bodywork sits a 5.5-liter flat-plane crank LT6.R V8 producing around 500 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Power is transferred through an Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox, while the chassis incorporates a lightweight aluminum monocoque with FIA-spec safety reinforcement. At roughly 750 pounds lighter than its road-going Z06 counterpart, the C8.R is a purebred endurance racer built for relentless performance.
Recently refreshed by Pratt Miller, the car includes a new zero-hour engine, an overhauled gearbox, and continued access to factory parts and technical support. For $1.5 million, the next owner will acquire more than a race car—they’ll take possession of a championship-winning chapter in Corvette Racing’s storied history.
