Few classic cars are as controversial as the Tucker, which promised to revolutionize the industry back in the day. The company went belly up before it could begin volume production, meaning few Tuckers ever saw the light of day. That’s why running across one stashed in a garage is a huge deal.
Shaq is auctioning off one of his custom Dodge Hellcats.
In fact, this and all other Tuckers are prototypes, of which a mere 51 exist. That’s far rarer than your neighbor’s C6 Corvette Z06 with a specific paint and interior color combo that makes it one of just 580.
Many people go their whole life and have never seen a Tucker in person. This is Tucker 1051, a car the two families which purchased it had been trying to make a deal to acquire for nearly 15 years. Patience is a virtue if you want to hunt down and buy rare classic cars.
The Tucker is in fantastic shape, having been stored with a cover. It’s obvious the late owner cared for the car and his family honored that dedication after his passing.
After the buyers roll the Tucker out of the garage, they discover that in the frunk there’s luggage with different parts and memorabilia inside. Yes, that’s right, despite what the Tesla crowd might believe, Elon Musk didn’t invent the frunk.
One of the guys who bought Tucker 1051 is the great grandson of Preston Tucker, the inventor of the car. For him it’s obviously a connection to his family’s past – you can tell he’s feeling a lot of emotions in the video.
Preston Tucker never did get to realize his dream of revolutionizing the auto industry. Thanks to money problems and an SEC investigation that was detailed out in the newspapers, which some have tried claiming the Big Three were behind, his company went under, as did his aspirations of making a different kind of car.
