When you’re thinking about getting an off-road adventure vehicle, a 1980 Chevy Suburban might not be on your short list. But this one that’s been listed for sale online comes with a long list of modifications which make it an interesting option to consider, at least for the right shopper.
Would you rather grab this 1920s Chevy wrecker?
All you have to do is glance at this Suburban and it’s evident the thing is far from factory spec. After all, it’s been lifted, has an induction cowl hood, barn doors, bubble top, steel side steps, steel bumpers, grille guard, tailgate tire carrier, even sand ladders mounted on the exterior.
If all that looks serious, it is, because the modifications go deeper than that. The interior has been outfitted with a roll cage and five-pointed harnesses for some serious wheeling. In the rear is a small kitchen with fridge and freezer plus a sink, a bed, and a table, making this ideal for overlanding or other outdoor excursions.
To help you take on the great outdoors, this truck is outfitted with a 14-bolt rear with a Detroit locker, 10-bolt front also with a Detroit locker, and a beefed up suspension. If that doesn’t work out, a 15,000-lb. winch mounted up front should help get you out of trouble, or help with rescuing others.
This thing even has an adjustable air-ride suspension and a solar panel. While it’s not some nice, new Mercedes Sprinter van with all the fancy gizmos inside, it’s perhaps more stable on trails and you don’t have to pop out a small fortune. The owner is asking $40,000 for this ride, which we’ll leave it to you to decide if that’s fair.
