People buy wreckers for a variety of reasons, usually because they have towing business and need them for work. But this 1929 Chevrolet Series LZ International Wrecker obviously isn’t going to be used for any jobs, although it sure would make for a cool toy. The classic tow truck is being auctioned online right now, so technically it could become yours for the right price.
This looks like a Hellcat but it’s actually a Tesla.
The one and a half ton wrecker looks like it’s been nicely restored with the body, boom, interior, and even the woodworking on the bed all presenting nicely in the photos. This is the kind of thing you could show off with pride, just don’t expect people to really know what exactly it is. Although that could be nice for starting conversations.
Under the front cowling is a 194ci inline-six engine mated to a three-speed manual transmission. There’s no mention of this being a numbers-matching vehicle, but it does feature an updraft carb, mechanical fuel pump, and Delco Remy starter.
You’ll find the interior looks appropriate for the time period, featuring the simple dash, crank windows, and a bench seat with black vinyl upholstery. Among the gauges is one for the battery charge, oil pressure, and alcohol temperature.
In the bed are all kinds of cool things, apart from just the boom. The listing says what you see is a five-ton Beebe Bros. winch, plus there are assorted chains, towing accessories in the wooden toolbox, a chicken enclosure, and a Coca-Cola cooler. All of it is a slice of history.
Listed at no reserve on Bring A Trailer, this 1929 Chevy wrecker has a top bid of just $18,560 at the time this article is being written. We don’t doubt it will go up before this publishes, but by how much is the big question. An even bigger riddle is what will the top bid be by the time the auction ends?
