Footage taken of the secret car collection owned by ousted Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has been posted online and people are shocked. After all, Syria isn’t known for its vast wealth, so to see the man who was president since 2000 amass a car collection which would be impressive even for the United States has sparked a lot of online commentary.
Bernie Ecclestone is selling off his impressive race car collection.
The vehicles seem to all be stored in a private parking structure of some sort, hidden away from view. People obviously didn’t know the collection existed, so this peek into what a world leader had hidden away from his populace, not to mention everyone else, is fascinating.
It’s obvious Assad has a thing for Toyotas (and the Lexus luxury division) with multiple FJ Cruisers, a Tundra, and others in his collection, including at least a couple of Lexus LX 570s. The man also owns a number of GM products with a few Cadillac Escalades and even a modified Chevy Express passenger van.
He also has multiple Ferraris, Mercedes, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, and quite a few other exclusive brands with some rather expensive models. These are the types of vehicles many enthusiasts dream of one day owning, only the collection contains dozens of these rides.
One of the flashiest rides people are noting is the Ferrari F50 in Rosso Corsa, of course. Also in the collection is a Lamborghini LM002, the first Lambo SUV which is quite popular in the Middle East.
The big question everyone is asking is how Assad afforded all the cars? How you feel about the man will influence how you answer that question, but it is a valid point. The other is what will happen to the vehicles now that the man has fled to Moscow? Will they be returned to him, sold, or kept by the rebel forces?
