If you’ve ever been in the presence of a 1970 Buick GSX, consider yourself rather fortunate. Most are hidden away from public view these days because values are high and a mere 678 were made. We’ve seen a few in person, but they’re almost always behind velvet ropes, either at an auction or museum.
This is your chance to own a real Tim Burton Batmobile.
But this guy car YouTuber Backyard Barn Finds visits has not just one but two unrestored examples. The second one is owned by a friend who has this guy store it for him, but they’re in the same garage together. That alone is unbelievable.
As you might suspect, the guy is a bit of a Buick fanatic. Not only does he own those two GSXs but a ton of parts and Buick memorabilia, making his garage like a mini Buick museum.
The man’s personal car is a Buick GSX Stage 1, which came from the factory with some performance upgrades. As he explains, those include big valve heads allowing for more air/fuel and exhaust flow into and out of the cylinders, upgraded valve springs, more aggressive camshaft, a carb that’s specially calibrated for the intake head, a more robust distributor to give that extra spark for combusting more fuel, more robust oil pump and oil pickup tube, and a high-flow fuel pump.
Showing off the guy’s personal GSX includes a quick lesson on decoding the VIN tags. It’s always great to watch someone with deep knowledge of a single model go through minute details like that, rattling off facts like a machine gun. The guy becomes more animated, showing he’s really enjoying explaining the GSX and that’s great.
You get to see the friend’s Buick GSX in the background. It’s another Saturn Yellow version instead of the Apollo White. Plus, if you watch the video, Backyard Barn Finds gets to ride shotgun in the old muscle car, something most people, including us, haven’t done.
