Actress and Oscar award winner Tilda Swinton’s son Xavier got in big trouble back in July when he was caught in the UK blasting down a highway in his Ford Mustang at 100 mph. To Americans that might not sound like a huge deal, just pay a big ticket, maybe have the car impounded for a month or two, pay the impound fee, and move on with one’s life.
Learn how Johnny Depp played a prank on Amber Heard using her beloved Mustang.
But in the UK such excessive speeding is normally dealt with rather harshly. Oftentimes people who are caught going so fast are smacked with a driving ban instead of just getting a fine and points on their license. It’s shocked many that Xavier Swinton Byrne has escaped such a consequence.
Others aren’t so shocked. After all, Xavier belongs to an elite class in the country and so can get away with things normal people could never. Not helping with that sentiment is the fact the man argued before the court that he couldn’t be banned from driving because it would harm his film career, reports Daily Mail.
Apparently, magistrates have some discretion when doling out punishment for speeding offenses. In the past, people have escaped such a fate by demonstrating how it would lead to extreme hardship.
We guess having one’s career suffer qualifies. But we wonder how many non-wealthy people with no famous mother have argued such a thing and lost.
If you’re thinking you’ve never seen Swinton’s son Xavier in a movie, you’re correct. He works as a production assistant with products like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on his resume. Had the court known he had a hand in that atrocity, well the magistrates might have gone hard instead.
Living in a remote part of Scotland, Xavier apparently has to drive long distances to get to work. It sounds like a hard life for the man, but he’s paying for his speeding offense with six points on his license and fines totaling £1,185. Too bad he doesn’t have a rich mom to hit up for the cash.
