Some people still have an undying love for the Dodge SRT-4 Neon, a car which was a bit of an oddball when it came out. After all, who would’ve thought the bubbly second-gen car could become a turbocharged, fire-breathing monster. But one man has pushed his to the limit, making it supposedly both the fastest and quickest SRT-4 in the world (although we’ve covered one which might hit a higher top speed).
Check out an all-wheel-drive, turbocharged C3 Corvette that does a 7-second quarter mile.
The owner, Bradly Dillon, is reportedly a big name in the Neon community, which isn’t as large or as supported as different muscle cars in the overall domestic scene. In other words, the man has a true passion that’s not driven by popularity but instead obviously comes from within.
As they say, the proof is in the pudding, and Dillon has brought the goods when it comes to that. His SRT-4 Neon can run the quarter mile in 7.92 seconds with a trap speed of 186.67 mph, an impressive feat.
How he’s pushed the Dodge to that level is interesting. While the SRT-4 retains its original factory engine block, as you might have guessed there are some serious mods going on. One trick is Dillon used a head from a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Another is the K-series transmission backing the engine, which is of course donated by a Honda.
But perhaps one of the most important modifications is a Precision Turbo 73.9mm Next Gen R Class Legal turbo, which with upgraded internals to handle all that boost pushes output to over 1,400-horsepower at the hubs. A FuelTech ECU provides the right tune, rocketing this SRT-4 to victory repeatedly.
Not surprisingly, this car is the only domestic in the XFWD class, which is dominated by imports. But Dillon and his Dodge hold their own. Check out this car in action in the video, it’s really something else to see.
