When we first saw this boat car or street-legal boat or whatever you want to call it listed for sale, we naturally assumed it was an amphibious vehicle. That’s usually what a build like this entails, but the listing on Facebook Marketplace makes it clear the contraption won’t float and isn’t designed for taking out on the water.
Rock falls off a canyon wall and onto a Mazda, crushing it.
In other words, this is a car with a boat body, but it’s made to just drive on the road. As the seller says, “a boat is cooler on the street.”
We’re not sure we agree, but that doesn’t really matter if someone else is willing to plunk down the asking price of $8,500 to drive this thing around town. We’re sure it gets plenty of looks and that’s part of the point in owning such a thing.

But we have to say again, we don’t understand why someone would build a boat-bodied car that isn’t amphibious. Was the plan to make it worthy of taking out on the water, but that proved to be too hard?
After all, the thing has a prop on the rear, like it’s ready to go into the water. Maybe that’s just for dramatic effect or something. The owner says he rarely takes the thing out on the road, although we’re not sure why, but that might be the reason it’s being sold off.
At least it’s represented as running and driving. The vehicle is registered for use on public roads in Arizona, so we assume you should be able to register it in any state. That might be thanks to it riding on a 1981 Cadillac chassis, so that’s what it’s registered as. We guess the land barge would accommodate a boat body no problem.
Would you be interested in this thing? Or would it have only been compelling as an amphibious craft? Let us know.
