There’s no doubt the 1979 Chevy Camaro Z28 is one cool-looking classic American muscle car. But the unfortunate truth is when it comes to performance, at factory spec it’s found deeply wanting, especially by today’s standards. Thankfully someone built this one to pump out the same level of performance, matching the drop-dead gorgeous looks for one wild ride.
Check out a ’69 Camaro tricycle.
Actually, this build is a product of the legendary Roadster Shop as part of its Survivor Series. That means while it’s a restomod, the overall aesthetics have stayed true to the original car and the results are fantastic.
Plus, as they note in the Autotopia LA video review of this car, the Survivor Series vehicles don’t have as much work put into them, so owners aren’t scared to really drive them. We’re big fans of actually driving cars instead of just looking at them like a piece of artwork.
When it comes to performance, this ’79 Camaro hits hard with an LT5 V8 crate engine, like what you find in a C7 ZR1 Corvette. While out of the box this engine makes 750-horsepower. Instead of getting crazy with it, the Roadster Shop kept it stock, but it still makes plenty of power to scoot the muscle car along in a hurry.
Backing that engine is a T56 built for bigger power. Of course, this car rides on a Roadster Shop chassis made for Camaros.
While the interior is upgraded and nicer than what GM used back in the day, it’s all blue and so it sticks with the look from the era. Even the digital screens honor the era, which is just wild.
Speaking of honoring the factory feel, the Forgeline wheels look almost exactly like the stock ones, only they’re white, which looks great with the rest of the exterior.
Check out the video to see and hear this pure muscle car in action – you won’t regret it.
