We’re amazed at the Bugatti, or something looking a lot like one, was built by some guys. They chopped up three cars and put a ton of fabrication work into the creation, which is impressive. Sure, only someone who doesn’t know Bugattis would think their creation is one, or looks like the real deal. But for us gearheads, we know how much talent it requires to build something that looks this good.
This little Japanese Porsche tuner is storming the scene.
The guys use a Mitsubishi Eclipse as the platform vehicle for the creation. You can pick one up for cheap these days, so why not? Then they got to work, grafting parts from a GAZ-21 Volga and BMW 6 Series to start getting the shape down.
They had to modify the chassis to accommodate the larger, more shapely body as it evolved. These guys were also smart enough to fabricate attachment points for the new body parts, ensuring they could adjust fitment so there weren’t unsightly, uneven panel gaps.
You can always tell the experience of a builder by how closely they pay attention to details.
That also went into the fabrication of fiberglass body parts. Even the active rear wing and retracting hood ornament were added to the vehicle, mimicking a real life Bugatti.
To match the dramatic looks of the quasi hypercar, they decided to juice up the Eclipse’s powertrain some by replacing it with the 6 Series’. We think that was a solid move.
By building their own Bugatti, these guys saved themselves millions. They also got to show off to the world their skills.
Building a car from scratch would take forever, especially if you’re doing it all using hand tools in your garage. That’s why most people at least borrow the powertrain and chassis from an existing ride. You might call that cheating, but then so would be baking bread at home using flower purchased at the store instead of growing your own wheat, harvesting it, and milling it by hand.
