The Off-Road Dodge Viper is one of the most enthralling builds we’ve seen in a long time. After all, it’s completely ridiculous, only a madman would even dream of doing such a thing. But to actually build a Viper that can rumble off the road is truly demented in all the right ways. Now, the owner is showing off how truck-like the sports car is as it tows using that big V10.
Maybe you’d rather have a ridiculously fast Shelby GT350?
In the past we’ve covered how this build has left us feeling confused because we like it even though it feels borderline sacrilegious. And we also covered when it was finally taken off-roading, an outing that was a bit of a mixed bag, common with builds that aren’t entirely finished.
The latest test of the mostly done Off-Road Dodge Viper is towing. That requires an actual rear bumper, so SuperfastMatt shows off his questionable CAD skills and gets to work on that. The plan is to integrate a trailer hitch, thus allowing the car to tow trailers and such.
We don’t believe we’ve ever seen a Dodge Viper tow literally anything ever before. And why would we have? Who in their right mind uses the car for anything other than looking cool and driving fast?
On the looking cool part, during a “side quest” in the video, SuperfastMatt takes the Off-Road Dodge Viper to a meet and immediately gets mobbed by people. After all, the thing is wild and stood out from all the OEM rides, including ones that cost multiple times more, proving that built is always better than bought.
However, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you really should. Dodge says the first-gen Viper can’t tow anything, but they didn’t know someone would be crazy enough to lift one and add a hitch. Fortunately, SuperfastMatt seems to understand the very frame of the car can’t handle much, so even though the V10 offers plenty of torque for pulling, the structure might just snap apart in several spots at once.
