It’s not every day you run across the very first C4 Corvette ever made. But a pair of professional auto detailers were hired to clean this 1984 Chevy Corvette VIN 001 and they were floored. Even for guys who deal with rare rides, this was a special experience.

The American sports car is about as original as you can get. With only 277 original miles on it, the ‘Vette hadn’t had any components swapped out, including the brakes and tires. In other words, it’s a rolling piece of automotive history, by virtue of its originality and the fact it’s the first of a legendary sports car run.
Understandably, the guys at WD Detailing were super pumped to drag the C4 Corvette out of the garage where it’s sat for 30 years, collecting dust, and get it all cleaned up. That’s understandable but it’s also a little shocking to realize the vehicle is older than the detailers.
You might already know the story about the first C4 Corvette. It was advertised for sale in the newspaper and the late owner saw the ad, offered to buy it sight unseen, then unbeknownst to his wife mortgaged the house to purchase it.
Even though the guy talked about VIN 001 being a wise investment, whenever it came time to sell he just didn’t go through with it. The guy would take it to shows and collected tons of documentation in a binder.
Overall, the car isn’t as dirty as what WD Detailing usually tackles. But there’s dust, some mice tracks, and contamination on the paint. As they say, it’s no a disaster detail but instead is more preservation work so the historic car stays looking good.
It of course cleans up well and the owner is ecstatic.
