Back on November 4, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played the Kansas City Chiefs for Monday Night Football, a young fan was killed on his way to the game. Now the NFL team is helping the family in the aftermath of the fatal crash.

Ahead of his birthday, 18-year-old Connor Barba from Norman, Oklahoma was surprised by his mother, Megan Barnett, with tickets to the game in Kansas City. As a huge Bucs fan, he was pumped to go see the big game in person. But he never made it to the stadium.
About 170 miles southwest of Kansas City, in Montgomery County, at a little before 4 pm on November 2, a Chevy Camaro went over the painted line on a two-lane road, hitting Barba and Barnett’s car head-on at speed, reports ESPN.
Barba was behind the wheel but reportedly swerved, then hit the brakes in a way that put his mother out of the direct hit. While she was seriously injured, she survived the crash which killed her son.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have donated $10,000 to the family.
The driver of the Camaro was killed, and authorities still don’t know why he drifted into the oncoming lane of traffic. It could’ve been distraction, intoxication, drowsiness, a spilled drink, or so many other things.
Sadly, these types of accidents happen all the time. It’s a scary thing to realize if you’re driving on one of these roads with no physical median barrier. This crash happened in daylight hours, not at night like how most people picture something like it going down.
Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, who apparently was Barba’s favorite NFL player, is along with his wife Emily going to get in touch with the family. That’s a kind gesture, all things considered, and one we hope at least somewhat softens the blow of losing a young man in his prime.
