Fans of the TV show Street Outlaws are shocked to learn daughter of JJ Da Boss, WeeWee, has been banged up in a horrific drag strip crash in Missouri. Fortunately, she not only survived the ordeal but walked away without significant injury.
Kyffin Simpson crashes big during a practice run.
The crash happened during a race at the Bonne Terre Dragstrip in St. Francois County, Missouri as part of an “outlaw” drag race. Both cars were pushing high horsepower and were racing on an unprepared surface with an arm drop to start.
That style of racing has become rather popular in recent years, but JJ Da Boss now seems to have second thoughts about his children participating. “I don’t think I want my kids to race, not this kind of racing ‘outlaw’ that we do,” he’s quoted as saying by DragCoverage.
It’s a curious thing considering the man and his wife crashed a few years ago, but we guess having your own kid put in harm’s way is more of a wakeup call. While these no-prep races sure can be exciting for spectators, the reality is they’re far more dangerous for the drivers.
At least in the case of WeeWee, even though her car took a beating after it veered right, hit the retaining wall, then flipped at speed, she walked away with just some bruising. We would assume she no only had a full roll cage with solid welds but also a good seat, helmet, and collar on at the time.
Brian Britt, who was racing against WeeWee, deserves some credit, which JJ did give to the man. As a skilled racer, he recognized his competitor was in trouble, making a quick move to prevent the crash from being even worse.
Do you think these outlaw drag races have gotten out of hand? Or is this just the risk inherent in any form of racing?
