While a lot of people would just about die to own a classic Porsche 911, they would also be scared off by the state of this 1976. After all, the thing is in sad, sad shape. Yet somehow classic car hunter and rescuer Dennis Collins drove it on the road, if you can believe that.
Check out an amazing Porsche 911 Turbo meet.
Collins, instead of restoring the Porsche like he usually does, decided to do something different, listing the 911 for sale on Bring A Trailer. Maybe out of a desire to collaborate in a way, the guys at Donut Media ended up submitting the top bid.
Undoubtedly, they’re going to do a series of videos about restoring the classic Porsche. But how they transported the thing back to Los Angeles was interesting. Instead of sending a professional car transport service to Collins’ shop, one of them showed up in a U-Haul box truck.

Again, we smell a gimmick for a video, because just having the vehicle transported the traditional and practical way isn’t entertaining.
Dennis sold the 1976 Porsche 911 S, which at one point was buried, for under $1,000. Like we said, most people say they want a classic Porsche, but when there’s one that’s really cheap but also looks like a lot of work, they get scared and don’t pull the trigger.
In other words, people want a beautifully restored classic 911, yet those go for small fortunes. There’s something to be said about the value of rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty.
But restoring the car surely won’t be cheap or easy. It’s quite mangled, most of the glass is gone, and it’s going to need considerable work. But we’re sure Donut will get a lot of good content out of the process, so in a way it’s an investment.
