It’s no secret Scuderia Ferrari has problems with the SF-25 as both of its Formula One drivers have struggled wrangling the thing. But a new report claims a supposed solution is coming in a few weeks, so we might see Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc settle into the groove more.
This year’s Indy 500 was a bit of a mess.
We are, of course, talking about the loose rear end on the F1 car. With two excellent drivers in its stable, Ferrari knows the pull-rod rear suspension is as nervous as a caffeinated rabbit. Both Hamilton and Leclerc have complained it gets a little too frisky right around the apex of a tight turn.
The result is neither driver can capture a win so far this season. There’s been talk of either Hamilton or Leclerc leaving the team out of frustration. While one can look at friction with engineers and others, the SF-25 is probably only irritating everyone.
But it sounds like Ferrari is going to just roll out the revised rear suspension and if it isn’t what the drivers need, that’s it. That might sound like a risky play and it is, but the team has other considerations on its plate.
For one, it’s rolling out new wings thanks to FIA getting stern about flexi-wings and claimed advantages. That’s kept the team a little busy.
But a bigger factor is all the regulatory changes coming for the 2026 season. If Ferrari doesn’t start working on designing a solid car now, next year could be even worse. That’s requiring a mountain of resources, so the Italians are managing multiple fires at once.
Hopefully, the team can retain both drivers, but it remains to be seen if that’s in the cards. If not, maybe next season it will have a car that isn’t like a jittery cheetah.
