After being banned from operating motor vehicles, a repeat drunk driver thought he had a way around the system, taking a horse and buggy for a spin. However, just like Icarus, the guy got a little too confident, riding past the local police station we assume to taunt officers and horse around, but the stunt backfired.
Uber driver follows navigation down an off-road trail, leading to disaster.
The man, a 69-year-old who lives in Poddębice, Poland, was captured in surveillance footage directing the two horses pulling his buggy right in front of the police station. Obviously, officers are going to take note of something unusual like that.
One of them must have recognized the guy, because in the footage he comes tearing out of the station like some sort of track star. Fortunately, the horses were going at a slow trot, so the cop was able to catch up and bring them to a halt.
As The Independent reports, police had the man take a breathalyzer test. Just like in many other parts of the world, driving a horse and buggy can’t be done while intoxicated, the same as driving a car.
His BAC returned at 1.3 percent, a level of intoxication which could put the drinker’s life in danger. And the guy was somehow sitting upright in the buggy!
Perhaps he swung by the police station because deep down inside he knew he needed help. After all, the guy has become well-known with officers after getting arrested several times for drunk driving. A judge finally banned him for life from operating an automobile.
Maybe the man thought driving a horse and buggy was no big deal? The stunt has earned him a new court date and we have to wonder, what sort of punishment will the judge devise this time? Will he be banned from contact with beasts of burden next?
