We’ve seen some pretty fast RC car builds in the past, including some that have gone up against full-size vehicles on drag strips and won. But this RC car on a closed circle track has set a new bar, although it’s with some caveats. Still, what these guys have accomplished is truly unbelievable.
Someone is blocking speed enforcement cameras using fake flowers.
Like the high-speed cars used in places like the Bonneville Salt Flats, the RC car is long and low so it can cut through the air. Getting it going looks like a bit of a procedure, but once it starts to cruise the thing really whips.
Then it starts really going fast and that’s when you see it: the car is anchored to the poll in the middle of the track via a thick wire. The guy standing under the umbrella is perched over the wire as he watches the RC car hit over 200 mph.
It gets going so fast it kicks up dust as it goes around the circle, making an odd buzzing sound. You also really can’t see the car in the video anymore, instead spotting just a vague blur.
Can you imagine if this thing went out of control the damage it could do? What if the wire broke? Sure, high-speed tests in real vehicles are dangerous, but we had no idea the kind of risks faced when testing the limits of high-performance RC cars.
The video claims this RC car is faster than a Formula One racer. Those can go upwards of 234 mph, so not quite, at least when it comes to top speed. We don’t know what its 0-60 or 60-100 acceleration times are, so maybe it could smoke one that way?
Before this, we’ve only seen RC cars hit like 160 mph or somewhere around there, which is super fast. Can you imagine one of them hitting your foot or shin at that speed? We’re pretty sure you’d be hospitalized for months after.
