The Zimmer Golden Spirit, also lovingly known as the “Rolls-Stang” or “Zimmer Mustang,” is a car that many have forgotten ever existed, if they ever knew. When we ran across one listed for sale online, we just had to put it out there. After all, if you’re tired of marching to the beat of the same drummer as everyone else, this funky American luxury car will make you stick out for sure.
Check out how a YouTuber turned his car into an RC car.
Back in the early 80s, the Golden Spirit was Zimmer Motor Cars Corporation’s flagship model. You probably already realize the more modern ride was created to look like luxury cars made before WWII, a “neoclassical” design, if you will.
And the nickname for this vehicle should help you guess what it’s based off – a Ford Mustang GT. So these things can move, even though they look prim and proper. Sold to affluent people who wanted something unique and American, Golden Spirits have long been status symbols.
This one is being offered for just $10,000 with a claimed 25,000 miles on the odometer. With the memory of this luxury ride faded, this apparently is the time to get a relative deal.
That’s not to say this Rolls-Stang is in perfect condition. The exterior actually looks fairly decent in the photos, although the hood and roof aren’t great, so a repaint is in order. But the interior is going to need some skilled restoration.
It looks like some moisture got in somehow, with wood trim pieces in the center console around the shifter and on the passenger side of the dash rippled and coming apart. The hub and spokes on the steering wheel have peeling paint, so that will also need to be addressed. We bet there are more interior issues not shown in the singular picture.
But with some work and skill, someone could make this 1982 Zimmer Gold Spirit really shine. Just think what it would be like to pull up to a car show or meet in this thing. You are guaranteed to get people talking.
