We know for many the Alfa Romeo brand still represents a more accessible way to own a fun Italian car than say Lamborghini or Ferrari, for those who desire such a thing. That’s why we wanted to highlight this 1978 Alfa Romeo GTV we recently ran across as listed for sale. Quirky and fun, it’s perhaps everything you could hope for in a hobby car.
Perhaps you’d rather own this Mercedes 190 E Evolution II instead?
But admittedly the little Italian isn’t for everyone. The thing is full of quirks, which we think adds to its charm. For example, the gauge cluster is housed at the top of the middle stack in the dash, not in front of the driver, who has only the tach in directly in front.
Yes, this is a five-speed manual, so if you don’t know stick you’d have to learn how to manage a third pedal. They’re a lot of fun. This car is outfitted with a rear transaxle and boasts excellent weight distribution, as well as a low center of gravity, so it really hugs the road through turns.
While the seller says this GTV is the correct factory color, it was repainted in 2021, which is why it looks so great. It’s also apparently a numbers-matching car with all the factory mechanicals intact. What’s more, the seller says it has zero rust, has been in no accidents, and so is a rare find.
One modification has been made to this car: the wheels. They’re racing wheels which have been imported from Italy and we think they’re a tasteful addition.
The seller says she has more photos of this Alfa Romeo but requests you only contact her if you have a serious, not a casual, interest in this GTV. We think the right person will absolutely cherish this classic. Is that you?
