The term “flying car” is one that can fill people’s minds with fantastical visions, but is also something we’ve seen liberally applied. After all, some so-called flying cars are more akin to drones, only the pilot sits inside, and they’re not very car-like. Then there’s the Klein Vision AirCar, which looks more like an actual automobile and actually flies.
Learn about a flying motorcycle in development.
For nearly a century, visionaries have dreamt of flying cars allowing people to move with greater ease around cities. While such a thing sounds amazing, the reality has been grounded in facts such as most people aren’t qualified to operate an aircraft and airplanes must have approved flight paths or horrific accidents might result.

But people keep trying to make flying cars a reality. One of the current efforts is being made by Klein Vision, a company that’s been around since 2016. However, the founder, Stefan Klein, has been working on developing a practical flying car design since 1989.
While the AeroMobil I and II have been celebrated somewhat, neither one resulted in a marketable product. The hope is that Klein Vision’s AirCar will be available for purchase sometime in the first quarter of 2026.
If the company is successful on bringing it to market, the AirCar would be the first flying car sold on the open market in three quarters of a century.
Obviously, it will have limited appeal. The price won’t be cheap, so that alone will restrict it to the wealthy. And only people with a pilot’s license as well as access to a viable runway will be able to use it.

For now, the company is focusing on the upcoming test flights of the second prototype this fall. If all goes well, it’s full steam ahead.
There are other efforts to bring flying cars to the market, some taking the fixed-wing approach like Klein Vision and others going for multiple rotors like a modern drone. Ultimately, we’ll have to see if any of these efforts result in something revolutionary.
