Watching a Porsche 911 GT3 RS crash, then a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack smack into it afterwards makes for a painful track day. That’s what unfolded recently at TT Circuit Assen, a track located in the Netherlands, and the weather played a large role in the tragedy.

If you’ve never visited the Netherlands, rain is a common condition you’ll contend with. At the beginning of footage taken by YouTuber Carspotter Jeroen, we see the track is wet from earlier rain. It’s also rather overcast, but that’s common there.
A line of cars file out onto the track for some fast laps as part of the SupercarMadness event, including a couple of a 911 GT3 RS, a classic 911, VW Golf R, Audi R8, and a BMW 4 Series. The odd duck of the bunch is the American muscle car, a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack.
The drivers were definitely having a good time, enjoying blasting down straightaways and hitting those apexes just right. But after a while the rain started coming down in sheets.
But the event continued because it rains a lot there and that’s just how things are. At first everyone seems to be handling the conditions just fine. But as the rain continues, you can see some of the cars come out of the turns and wobble, showing traction is degrading rapidly.
In hindsight, stopping the event right then would’ve been wise.

Instead, the event went on. But water accumulated on the track surface until right in front of the grandstands one of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS hydroplaned and spun out, hitting the wall. Not too long after, the Scat Pack did the same thing, spinning right into the German car.
Both drivers are reportedly okay, although the one in the Dodge was complaining of leg pain.

But you can see in the footage that at the same time the Challenger hydroplaned, so did another 911 GT3 RS, only it went into the grass. Conditions deteriorated rapidly and track officials should’ve halted the event before it reached that point.
