While there have been plenty to line up and mock the Pontiac Fiero, others have decided to improve on what they view as a brilliant chassis. We’ve seen different engine swaps on them, many are hot messes, but this one involving a Cadillac V8 is super clean and impressive.
Former NFL player is EV swapping his classic Chevy.
The owner explains that the mesmerizing color is “Candy Cherry Ruby Red” and we love it. With the amazing lines of the Fiero, a brilliant paint job is a must, especially when you drop a fire-breathing V8 into it.
This guy understood that the weak engine was why the Fiero hasn’t aged well at all and has been mocked in the past. He made an interesting choice, taking the L26 4.9-liter V8 from a 1991 Cadillac Eldorado, of all things.
We would’ve been looking to Pontiac or maybe Chevy for a donor mill, not Cadillac and certainly not the Eldorado. But his idea seems to work well enough, the V8 fitting nice and snug mid-ship.
Instead of just throwing a junk yard motor into the Fiero, the owner did some work. He put a performance cam in the V8 and bolted up a brand new alternator, as well as “lots of new parts” without getting into the weeds on that.
But the guy says the Pontiac Fiero drives nice and smooth with a low idle, even when going 80 mph on the freeway. After all, it has the heart of a Caddie.
The 12-inch brake rotors were donated by a 1995 Corvette. It has air conditioning, an aluminum core racing radiator, and a few other little mods. Nobody is going to claim this is drag strip monster and it wasn’t built to be one. Instead, it’s a reliable, comfortable, and enjoyable American mid-engine sports car with plenty of usable power.
What’s even better is this Fiero is for sale in Phoenix, Arizona. If you watch the video there’s more info about it, including how you can get in touch with the owner.
