Few cars have had as much of an impact on the auto industry and car collecting hobby as the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, so it’s not surprising it’s been selected as a 1:12 scale model for the Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels collection That’s right, the iconic sports car from the 1950s will be released as a plastic brick building set.
This guy’s Hot Wheels collection is worth millions.
It might be confusing to some that this isn’t a Lego set, but Mattel is trying to rival the popular building blocks by pushing its own line of sets which are associated with the beloved Hot Wheels brand.

You not only will get the plastic bricks to build the 1:12 scale model of the Mercedes Gullwing, you’ll also get a 1:64 diecast Hot Wheels car in a nice Perspex display case. Honestly, if your dad is into cars, especially classic Mercedes, this would make for a cool Father’s Day present.
As you can see from the images, the model building kit is rather detailed. It’s not just made of plastic; there are some metal parts which add a substantial feel to the toy. Among them are metal rearview mirrors and the two-spoke steering wheel.
Of course, the doors open as does the trunk with a spare tire inside and the hood, which reveals the engine. Mattel even throws in some extra pieces, like knockoff wheels, so you can customize the car depending on your preferences or mood.

The is the first in what’s going to be a growing line of The Premium Series in the new Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels toys. We imagine the company will be featuring other enthusiast-favorite rides, so if the Merecedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing isn’t really your thing, something that is will probably be coming in the near future.
