Dealing with tow companies after your car has been taken to a two yard or impound lot can be frustrating. After all, you not only will be charged for having the vehicle towed but also storage fees, which can add up fast. That might be why people are sharing this video clip that’s supposedly from a lawyer as he explains how you can flip the script on the tow companies quickly.
The federal government sued a tow company after it took a military member’s car.
To be clear, we aren’t attorneys, and we don’t know if this guy actually is one or if he is where he’s licensed to practice law. All we know is he’s some guy in a suit giving advice that may or may not be valid. If you have any doubts about what to do after your car is towed, we suggest contacting an attorney licensed to practice where you live and getting advice from them.
However, we have a bad feeling some people are going to try doing what this guy says. Perhaps he’s right, but what he shares seems sketchy to us and a lot of other people. Again, we’re not telling you to do what he says. In fact, we’re horrified and also laughing hysterically over it.
We’ll embed the video shared on Facebook, but just in case it’s removed for whatever reason later, this is basically what the guy says: tow truck companies are actually renting your vehicle when they tow it away without your permission.
This apparently includes when you park somewhere that’s labeled as “no parking” and they take your ride away. He says “anyone who’s in possession of your vehicle and doesn’t have title to it is renting your vehicle.” We want to tell our mechanic this next time our car is in the shop for a few days.
He goes on to claim you can bill the tow company for renting your car, or just file a lawsuit like what car rental services do when someone doesn’t return a vehicle on time. If someone actually goes through with this, please let us know what happens. This sounds so very much like the sovereign citizens saying they don’t need a driver’s license because they’re “traveling.”
Again, we’re not telling anyone to do this. We’re not attorneys, we’re not giving legal advice. But we do want to know what everyone thinks of what this man says, especially if you’ve done this.
