Just about everyone knows actor Keanu Reeves is a huge motorcycle guy. But they might not realize the man enjoys going fast on four wheels as well. That’s going to be on full display when he takes to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Toyota GR Cup this weekend.
Check out footage of Michael B. Jordan allegedly crashing his Ferrari.
We don’t know much about Reeves’ participation in the race since details haven’t been divulged. However, the actor is helping to promote the event by making short videos thanking organizers for the chance to race at the Brickyard.
Those videos have been posted on different social media accounts, including the official GR Cup Instagram account. It’s obvious they’re leveraging Reevs’ star power to get people interested in the event, which is actually a pretty genius move.
Cody Jones from Dude Perfect will also be competing in the GR Cup this weekend.
If you haven’t heard to the Toyota GR Cup yet, there’s good reason for that. It’s a relatively new series which involves all teams using Toyota GR86s with the same spec. Unlike NASCAR and other series, the vehicles aren’t that far off from what you can buy from a dealership, which we think is far more relatable.
There’s been a trend lately of a few celebrities doing actual motorsports events. Sure, in the past there were the rarities in Hollywood, but it seems as the mystique of Tinsel Town wanes, more stars are looking to connect with fans in ways that are authentic, gritty, and real. Climbing into a race car and driving more than a few laps in a real competition is one hell of a way to do that.
We’re more accustomed to seeing celebrities in the stands at motorsports events, sipping some champagne and looking glamorous. If this trend grows, it could be a way to increase regular people’s interest in motorsports and hopefully spread the hobby around while also giving celebrities a little bit more credibility.
