As we covered before, Keanu Reeves was set for his debut in the Toyota GR Cup over the weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. While there was plenty of anticipation the movie star would pull off something amazing, we had more tempered expectations considering the celebrity was up against professional racers. So when he spun out halfway through his first race and finished 31st out of 35 cars, we weren’t shocked.

In fact, even though the result wasn’t as impressive as some were anticipating, we thought he did quite well. After all, the guy isn’t a professional racecar driver. Most people don’t understand how grueling and technical of a job it is, thinking it’s more akin to driving in rush hour traffic.
During his first Toyota GR Cup race, Reeves spun his car out exiting Turn 9 just over halfway through the competition, which lasted 45 minutes. Thankfully, he didn’t hit another vehicle, his Toyota GR86 spinning out into the grass.
Reeves tried preventing the loss of control but to no avail, the weight transferring from the rear drive wheels to the heavier front end. However, he was able to keep the car from contacting the wall as it suffered zero damage and the actor was left uninjured.
The car Reeves was driving, No. 92 BRZRKR, wore a livery promoting his graphic novel The Book of Elsewhere. Incidentally, he wasn’t the only celebrity on the team, with Cody Jones of Dude Perfect also on the roster.
This wasn’t Reeves first time racing. He’s an avid motorcycle rider and racer, plus he’s raced cars in the past. The actor took the checkered flag at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach celebrity race back in 2009. However, this time around he wasn’t racing against other actors and musicians, so the competition was much stiffer.
