Wanted for retail fraud and felonious assault, the driver of this Jeep Liberty was ready to do whatever it took to run from the law. However, a Michigan trooper who spotted the Jeep as well as is colleagues were willing to put an end to the suspect’s dangerous flight from the consequences of his actions.
Watch a Michigan trooper light up a fleeing Dodge Durango.
After all, the guy goes head-on with several vehicles right from the get-go, almost causing a few serious accidents. It’s obvious he doesn’t care about anyone’s safety, including his own. Troopers need to take action and bring the chase to a close quickly before the unthinkable happens.
What’s interesting about this chase is the fact we can’t remember when was the last time we’d seen a suspect flee in a Jeep Liberty or if we’d ever seen a chase involving one. The controversial replacement for the XJ isn’t generally well loved and we don’t see many getting used on or off the road these days.
This one probably won’t be used anywhere again, thanks to the guy running from Michigan State Police. Out of seemingly nowhere, a trooper throws out Stop Sticks and nails the Jeep’s tires. The quills in a Stop Stick help deflate tires fast, so the suspect probably doesn’t even realize he’s losing traction and handling as he goes onto the shoulder to get around slower traffic.
That’s a costly move because when he hits the pavement again, those deflated tires cause the Liberty to shoot across the road and onto the other shoulder where it rolls several times. The driver is thrown out of the window and obviously wasn’t strapped in.
If you need evidence about why seatbelts save lives, this is a good example. Because he fell onto soft grass, the guy was okay, but he easily could’ve been street pizza.
