Hoonigan has been running its This vs That video series for a while now, but recently there’s been a bit of a change. The team has been filming in the UK to get a different array of vehicles throwing down in drag races, which honestly is interesting to see. We hope they progress to other regions of the world, because variety is the spice of life and the automotive hobby.
Watch two built off-road trucks in a nail-biting race to the finish line.
This time around there are two UK-specific Fords going head to head with each other. Both are heavily modified and lightweight, making for a truly interesting matchup.
First up is a 1980 Ford Cotrina Pro Street that’s apparently notorious for doing monster wheel stands. Yes, it’s packing a twin-turbo LS V8, the very thing which enrages so many Blue Oval stalwarts, but there’s a reason so many go that way. It’s supposed to be making 614-horsepower, which is plenty for a 2,094 lb. vehicle.
What’s more, the guy behind the wheel is a veteran drag racer, so that could give the Cortina an edge.
However, the contender is a 1977 Ford Capri MK2 packing two massive 88mm turbos feeding a 440ci Big Block Chevy V8. That’s such a departure from what originally came in these incredibly tame budget cars. The owner claims output is about 1,900-hp and the car tips the scales at 3,200 lbs.
But, with great power comes the need to hook up and shut the competition down. Can this Capri do that? The owner claims it clocks the quarter mile over a full second faster than the Cortina. Claims are great but results are what truly matter.
These two Fords display different approaches to getting down the dragstrip as quickly as possible, but which one will come away victorious? Watch the video and see for yourself.
