Quite a few big comedians are also big time gearheads, including Gabriel Iglesias. Everyone knows Fluffy has an extensive collection of Volkswagen Type 2s, a collection he’s proudly shown off in the past. But what most don’t know is he owns a pair of 1988 Chey Monte Carlo SS cars which come with quite the backstory.
Someone stole two of Ray J’s Maybachs.
To share these rides, Iglesias appeared on Jay Leno’s Garage. For many, they seem like an odd choice for a guy who has piles of cash to cherish, especially since they were both built on what was at the time an outdated and dying platform.
But as is the case with many enthusiasts, Iglesias fell in love with the Monte Carlo SS back when he was a young kid. Thinking they were the coolest thing, he vowed to one day buy one. But when the time came he snatched up two, all thanks to a compelling story.
These cars had been owned by identical twin brothers in Ohio who wore and drove the same things. The comedian hinted to Leno that the Monte Carlos were possibly used to help with a money laundering scheme, adding to their intrigue.
Even better, the brothers barely drove these cars, meaning they were kept in pristine condition. One had just 36 miles on the odometer, the other about 200 miles. Both still had the interior delivery wraps. For any enthusiast, the opportunity to own such a thing is golden.
In fact, Iglesias and Leno removed those delivery wraps on the show, something we believe is a first. Then they drove them on the roads in Los Angeles, showing how everything works perfectly.
Maybe an ’88 Monte Carlo SS isn’t your dream ride, but for Iglesias and others who have dreamt of such a thing this is a real treat.
