We’ve seen some crazy engine swaps in our time, but we don’t think we’ve ever seen anyone drop a MIG fighter jet engine into a land vehicle. But a used example is up for grabs on eBay right now, so this could be your chance to do something truly insane.
Check out the Dodge Neon that hit 200 mph.
Maybe you own an old tank and aren’t satisfied with the engine? Or you feel like your old Humvee needs more get-up-and-go? This airplane propulsion system could be your ticket to literally flying down the road.
For those who might have more than just a casual interest this engine comes from a Soviet MIG 17F and a Klimov VK1F. The listing claims these engines ‘are impossible to find” but we can’t verify that. We can, however, tell you we’ve never seen one listed for sale, but we haven’t exactly been looking for one.
We also don’t know if this jet engine will run or if it needs repairs. The seller claims the turbines turn smoothly by hand, but admits the engine core may or may not be good. Since we’re not airplane mechanics, we couldn’t even begin to tell you what could go wrong with this unit, so definitely do some homework before buying this item. Or don’t, then panic when you get it.
While the seller makes it clear the yellow cargo straps won’t be included in the sale, they say the jet engine is on a pallet and can be shipped. Originally, the asking price was $24,500 but it’s been reduced to $19,600 with about 7 days left on the listing.
Since the listing says “or best offer” you can probably negotiate with the seller. Just keep in mind, this is a rare Soviet-era jet engine, not an LS3. But maybe you could mount it to the pack of an old pickup and see how fast it hits 200 mph. Just make sure to get a life insurance policy first.
