Opinions on modern cars from Modena like this 2006 Maserati GranSport sure can be strong and divisive. That’s why when we saw this Italian beauty listed for sale at a very attainable $24,000 we had to ask if readers would pull the trigger and buy the thing or hold onto their cash and run like hell.
Would you rather have a Panoz Esperante?
The seller says the reason for selling the GranSport is “reducing the collection” and not that it’s a money pit or loaded with problems. Some might not believe it, but that could be true, we don’t know. But it apparently has just 34,000 miles on the clock, which again could be great or a red flag, depending on how you see it.

Apparently, the Maserati has a brand spanking new clutch installed with less than 400 miles on it. A Ferrari dealer installed it, so that probably wasn’t a cheap job, meaning you don’t have to pony up for it.
Additional information about the state of the car is sparse, just that it’s both running and driving. Those are good things, for sure.
We would have a lot of questions before purchasing such a ride sight unseen. Looking at the photos, there are some things we’d want to clarify. For example, in the three-quarters picture from the car’s rear, there’s what looks like a possible scuff mark on the passenger-side corner of the bumper cover. That might be mud, but it could be collision damage.

Interior pics look good, although there’s some dirt on the floor mats, but that’s not the end of the world. A video lets you hear that V8 burble and it sure sounds nice, which is what really draws people to Maseratis.
But – and maybe we’re being picky here – the photo of the hood popped shows a lot of grime hidden underneath the front edge of the hood. Is that the end of the world? Obviously not, but it’s curious.
Probably more concerning is the mechanical reputation of the GranSport. Some will argue it’s good. Others will claim it’s atrocious. What do you think? Is this car worth rolling the dice at the low price of $24,000?
