Most people know Cleetus McFarland from his rather popular YouTube channel, but fewer know he’s a real racecar driver. That will be front and center on February 15 when the man participates in the ARCA Menards Series at Daytona International Raceway for Rette Jones Racing.
YouTuber arrested for car theft.
McFarland, real name Garrett Mitchell, revealed this exciting news on social media January 15, one month before his big debut race. He posted a photo of him standing next to a Menards Series Mustang stock car, the NASCAR logo prominently featured.
For those who know the man does really race, and who remember him when he was a wild child in 1320 videos (if you know, you know), this is also going to be a shock. After all, McFarland is going legit in a semi-professional race for a series that feeds into NASCAR.
It’s possible McFarland does make the jump into NASCAR and with him brings his massive fanbase. We wouldn’t expect he would be getting a podium finish right off the bat or anything crazy like that, but one never knows what the future might hold.
In his social media post, McFarland reveals that last week he went in secret to Daytona Speedway to undergo testing, gaining approval to participate in the ARCA race next month. The legendary Dayton 500 is being held there the day after McFarland makes his appearance.
Just yesterday, McFarland dropped a YouTube video titled “The Start of my NASCAR Career.” In it we see him blast around the Daytona International Raceway in the stock car, taking a step towards what he says is a lifelong dream.
But McFarland fully admits he doesn’t know what the outcome of all this is going to be. The man has a good attitude, enjoying the journey instead of just dreaming about the destination. We wish him the best of luck on February 15.
