It used to be that everyone just knew sport bikes were faster than cars, hands down, but races like this one between a BMW M4 Competition and an M1000RR have clarified that isn’t true. Sure, a high-powered two-wheeler can be hard to beat when you have four wheels, but it certainly isn’t impossible, especially with modern technologies.
Watch Hayabusas race fast EVs.
Speaking of technology, the car used in this drag race has been heavily modified, so this isn’t exactly what would happen with factory-fresh rides. It would be interesting to see how the two would stack up against each other in the original spec, but we’re pretty sure the bike would win with no problem.
Instead, the M4 Competition has been built seven ways to Sunday with forged internals in the inline-six, plus twin hybrid turbos, upgraded intake, and more. The build isn’t cheap, but it pushes output from 540-horsepower to an earth-shattering 1,000-hp.
Before you think the race is over before it starts, the BMW M1000RR is no pushover. With 212-horsepower on tap and quite a few lightweight carbon-fiber parts, including the wheels, out of the box it flies. Plus, it’s pushing more power per pound by a fair margin.
The race is a standing quarter mile on an unprepared surface. While it would’ve been great to see these two go toe-to-toe on a real drag strip with the tires sticking on the starting line, that’s not what UK car YouTube channel carwow does. Some have an issue with how these races are staged, but others find them more “realistic” or what it would be like to race on the street, which you absolutely shouldn’t do.
What you should do is sit back and watch the video to see how the race plays out – you just might be surprised by the result.
