Thanks to the Back to the Future franchise, a lot of people use their 1985 Toyota Xtra Cab to try replicating Marty McFly’s truck. But we recently ran across one that eschews that trend, going in a twisted direction that will appeal to anyone who’s really into rock crawling.
You could go for this 10-wheel-drive truck instead.
As you can see, this truck has been heavily modified with not only an exterior cage but also a Z-axis control system. That means this Toyota is so far from stock, it won’t appeal to just anyone. But the right person will appreciate the extreme articulation and other abilities the modifications provide.

According to the seller, the frame was cut behind the cab and a vertically mounted crane slewing bearing was installed. That allows the pickup’s front and rear to rotate independently, with everything controlled by a hydraulic ram.
Plus, the truck has a hydraulically controlled dump bed, allowing you to get to all the mechanicals below for easier maintenance on the trail. If you know, you know.
That exterior cage we think looks cool and it’s functional, especially the stinger-style hoops in the front and rear for those code brown moments when crawling on technical trails.
This truck rolls on 35-inch tires mounted on bead locks, plus there’s an onboard air compressor so you can drive to the trail, air down, wheel, air back up, then drive home. There’s also a second transfer case for low-speed crawling through technical areas, auxiliary lighting, and a front-mounted winch, among other modifications.

Not only do you get the factory doors, the seller is throwing in some half doors for when you want a more open air experience.
Now here’s the real kicker: this Toyota is listed for a mere $5,500 because it’s not currently operational. But is it worth fixing up so you get the benefit of the highly modified setup? Or do you find a cheap used truck and do all of that yourself? That’s your call.
