For many pony car fans, the 1993 Mustang Cobra is a perfect ride. Even though there are a fair number of critics of the Fox Body generation, those who love it will die on that hill, so it’s heartbreaking to see this once-mighty snake left to molder in a shipping container for years on end. However, you get to see the Ford go through a miraculous transformation from hot mess into one hot ride.
Learn how a father and son worked together to build a unique racing simulator.
For about 28 years the Cobra sat in the shipping container and literally molded while rodents made it their home. After the owner tragically passed away, the family saw the car as one of the final memories of their loved one, so they decided to hire one of the best automotive detailers in the business to get it cleaned up.
Originally, the owner blew the transmission while doing a burnout. Like what happens with so many barn find condition cars, the guy put the Mustang Cobra in a storage solution for what was supposed to be a little bit, but life happened and it never was repaired.
If you find it necessary to store a car long-term, that doesn’t mean it has to mold or otherwise get trashed during that time. Running a dehumidifier in the cabin periodically can help cut down on the chance of mold. Definitely use stabilizing fluids or drain fluids as appropriate.
We recommend checking over the interior and engine compartment, as well as the chassis regularly to avoid animal infestations, too. Leaving some rodent traps in and around the vehicle is a wise move, too. After all, this Cobra has multiple rodent nests hidden under the seats and in other nooks.
While it’s cool to see this 1993 Mustang Cobra go from a complete mess to a shiny, beautiful car just remember it’s always easier to keep your ride clean and in good condition. Just because a vehicle isn’t functioning doesn’t mean you should just let it rot like this.
