When a professional barn find rescuer went to pluck a 1969 Mustang out of its resting spot in a wooded area, things didn’t turn out so great. The car, which is an S-Code 390 4-speed with the Sports Roof was in rough shape. Plus, the thing had been sitting unmoved since the mid-80s.
Watch a barn find classic Camaro get fully detailed.
But Dennis Collins, who will buy classic Mustangs in all kinds of conditions, can be a determined man. Some might call him stubborn after watching outings like this one. But that might be the secret to his success.
Like what happens with so many vehicles left outside and even those which sit in a barn with a dirt floor, the tires sunk into the ground over time. It’s almost like mother nature was trying to reclaim all the materials taken out of the earth to make the Mustang.
Immediately, Collins knows the recovery of the old Ford will be a pain. Balancing that dread out was his knowledge of Mustangs as he rattles off the pony car’s specs, saying there were only 51 like it built for the 1969 model year.
In other words, this is a bit of a rare vehicle.
Then Collins realizes some of the equipment attached to the Mustang came from a Mach 1. It’s what he calls a “bitsa car” or a vehicle that has a “bitsa this, a bitsa that.” It’s what happens when someone cannibalizes a lost cause ride, putting parts from it onto a similar model.
It seems the Mustang is destined to be stripped for parts to complete other more valuable ones, including an R-Code that needs an interior. But getting the thing out of its resting spot proves to be one hell of a job.
They have trouble with the tires not holding air, locking lug nuts that keep them from putting different wheels and tires on it, rotted studs that sheered off, extreme heat plus humidity, etc. The only plus is the sellers’ heavy equipment that help lift the Mustang and move it to the waiting trailer.
Would you have gone through all that trouble for this rusty old 1969 Mustang?
