Starting this sleeper 1965 Chevelle build in his garage when he was just 15, Mason has a bright future ahead of him. The understated muscle car is pure business, not only lacking frills but eschewing any luxuries in favor of raw performance. It’s always great to see a cool garage build, especially when it’s been done by a youth with a bright future ahead of him.

Mason has a 355ci V8 in the Chevelle and it’s making about 500-horsepower, with some nice internals like a solid roller cam, knife edge crank, and Jesel belt drive, so not too shabby. Even better, it has straight cut gears in the G-Force G101A 4-speed no lift shift dog box transmission. How many teenagers even know such a thing exists?
That’s not all. This ride has a Ford 9-inch rear with an Eaton locker. It has the stock frame and manual Wilwood brakes with four pistons on each caliper. Plus there’s a roll cage for added torsional rigidity.
But this car is so simple, not only is there no air conditioning, it lacks a heater and a stereo. The thing is built just to drive, nothing more. No frill builds like this can be so refreshing.
Dennis McCarthy is Mason’s father and you’re probably familiar with his work. Dad builds cars for movies, including the Justice League Batmobile and some of the newer Fast and Furious films. Mason’s older brother has a build of his own, but Mason’s honestly is super interesting.
You have to hear the rumble of this Chevelle’s exhaust and see it roast tires, something it’s proficient at even while rolling down the road. Mason really knows how to drive it, showing that kids do like cars and driving them after all.
