People love cars and people love movies, but some combine the two loves and customize a vehicle based on a film. That’s what the Ecto Kia is all about. But the Ghostbusters-themed Kia Soul was recently stolen in Los Angeles and the owner has been looking for help getting it back.
See what a gas station explosion looks like in a terrifying video.
Owned by movie prop maker Erica Nese, the Kia was stolen on the afternoon of May 6. She started customizing the little crossover during the pandemic after cosplaying as a Ghostbuster for a convention.
Sadly, Nese’s fears of someone ruining the customizations on her ride came true when a neighbor spotted it abandoned on the street in the area. All the roof modifications were gone and the decals were removed or scratched apart. One might even call what the thieves did downright vicious.
Nese told KTLA that someone attempted to steal her Soul last week, jamming a screwdriver into the keyhole. We assume that means the exterior door lock, but we guess it could’ve been on the ignition. None of that is made clear.
When she went down to the secure parking garage underneath her Silver Lake apartment building in LA, intending to take the vehicle to a mechanic for repairs from the attempted theft, she found it was gone.
We don’t know if Nese had the extra security installed on her car since we’re pretty sure it’s one of the Kias lacking an engine immobilizer. The so-called TikTok Kia/Hyundai theft challenge has taught countless numbers of teens how to steal these vehicles using a screwdriver and USB charger.
