Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Widebody Hits With AMG Power

Estimated read time 2 min read

Considering how much they sell for on the open market, pretty much nobody would take a classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing and turn it into a widebody restomod. To do that would be absolutely crazy, but fortunately one man has the cojones necessary to create such a thing.

Watch a classic Lancia Delta crash into a crowd at an event.

This restomod Mercedes is just a beauty, and it’s no wonder why. The 300SL Gullwing is arguably one of the most attractive cars ever made, a work of art on wheels that also was a venerable competitor for its day. You would have to try to make one ugly, so this guy had an excellent base.

Just to be clear, the body was made off a mold from an original Gullwing. Considering those classics sell for well over $1 million, that doesn’t surprise us, but we just want everyone to understand that.

Not only does this car look good, it sounds mean. Considering the body was grafted onto a donor Mercedes-AMG SLK 55, that makes sense. That car has a thumping, naturally-aspirated V8 and can rip like no other, doing justice to the Gullwing’s beauty.

The interior has all kinds of nice details, from the trim pieces to the seats and flooring. Those sorts of things make such a difference, yet so many builders just go generic for cabins.

As Shawn from Autotopia LA points out, this build was done in just four months’ time. The shop didn’t cut any corners, which honestly would’ve been a crime to do with a Gullwing. And they built it without a buyer committed, just found a donor, had an idea, and made it anyway. It sounds like that’s what they do consistently and since their builds are so great, they don’t have trouble finding buyers after they’re complete.

Seeing this Mercedes-Benz AMG Gullwing build in action, we don’t think it will have trouble attracting a well-heeled buyer.
