C6 Corvette Sets A Standing Mile Speed Record

Estimated read time 2 min read

A new record for the standing mile top speed was set recently by Kelly Bise behind the wheel of a C6 Corvette as it hit an impressive 263.93 mph during the ECTS Motorsports Top Speed Event held in Arkansas on October 5. That’s the fastest an LS-powered Corvette has gone in the mile to date.

Find out why a $7 million Pagani was seized by police.

Using a twin-turbo 7.0-liter LSX V8 outfitted with twin 200 injectors per cylinder, it makes plenty of power to get the sports car moving. That engine is bolted up to a six-speed sequential transmission, which is shifted through a Motec system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through 3.15 rear gears and RPM Stage 5 axle.

Speaking of power, horsepower for the Corvette is claimed to be about 2,200 at the rear wheels.

At the half mile mark during its run, this C6 Corvette was going 216.138 mph. While some think that’s a clear sign all it will take is a little tweaking for it to go much faster later (and it might) we also know that as vehicle speeds climb, it takes so much more to keep pushing the needle even just a little bit.

While the entire run is impressive, when you see the footage there’s something about this C6 Corvette we wouldn’t have expected. Instead of a stripped-down interior, the thing has all the carpeting, seats, dash, and everything else your neighbor’s C6 has. Sure, there’s a roll cage and a fire suppression system, but this thing didn’t go through serious weight reduction to achieve such a milestone. It’s tipping the scale at over 3,800 pounds!

Perhaps Kelly Bise will make another attempt and try to break his own record again in the near future? Or someone else might build something to challenge his C6 Corvette? Competition can after all bring the best out in everyone.
