This Nissan Patrol Build Cost $180,000

An Australian car YouTuber has revealed his Nissan Patrol overland build has set him back $180,000. That fact has shocked many who don’t realize just how expensive these types of projects can be, while others have defended his splurge.

Overlanding In The Last American Frontier

Just to clarify, that figure is in Australian dollars, so it’s a little less in USD (about $120,000 USD, actually). It’s still quite pricey for a little Nissan truck, if that’s all you’re going to see this build as, which some absolutely will.

Keep in mind, everything is more expensive in Australia, especially cars. Ask any Aussie who’s not an idiot about this and you’ll get an earful.

For those familiar with overlanding, you know it’s a hobby which can become quite expensive rapidly. Sure, you can overland on more of a budget, but even then it can still cost more than a lot of people would stomach.

But this YouTuber obviously loves his rig and the fact it’s customized, not a vehicle configured just like how it rolls off the factory line. That’s no wonder considering his channel is called Built Not Bought.

His build leaves pretty much nothing on the truck untouched. Not only does he have a full customized overlanding box in lieu of the pickup bed, rooftop tent, suspension, upgraded cooling, etc. he also adds smaller things like extendable side mirrors and a full kitchen setup for cooking in the middle of nowhere.

After all that, the guy says he’ll never sell this Nissan. That’s probably a good thing because we don’t know if anyone else will shell out the kind of cash he put into it. That’s a risk you take when you go big on a build and have to unload it later.

He also admits the truck is too flashy for him, and yet he’s keeping it. Despite wanting to take it out for adventures, he’s also desiring to protect the paint and other surfaces from damage. That might turn out to be an unrealistic expectation, but if so he’s going to have to deal with that further down the line.
